The Lopan Compass
A Taoist study of Energy and Time
Introduction to some of the important Compass School methods and how they are incorporated in Feng Shui Designs with Ecological Principles. The Universe is by no means static as natural influences change with the passage of time. The Lopan (feng shui compass) knowledge incorporates the elements of time and space. It is able to trace the pattern of change through the different 'ages' and makes it possible to access the fortune of a dwelling. With practice, the student can learn how to unblock energies that affect aspects of prosperity and health. The Lopan compass covers a large body of knowledge in regards to Classical Feng Shui. It is a valuable tool and can take time to master. We have developed an English language Lopan compass that will make learning easier for the Western student. In creating these systems, the ancient Taoist Sages took into consideration the underlying influences of universal cosmology and the cycles of nature and change. The Lopan can be viewed as an early form of a SunDial that traces the path of the sun and the seasons and expresses a deep, poetic, and ecological view of life.
The afternoon session will highlight examples of how the Lopan Compass techniques merge with Form School techniques and ecological principles in a variety of Architectural Design Projects. Through slides, drawings and discussion learn how leading edge developments are designed with these principles. Case studies include: a National Design Competition for The Ram Dass Library at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies In New York, A Japanese Inspired Spa at a 5 Star Resort Hotel in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, A Condominium Remodel in Malibu, California and others.
